Town of Groveland Shares Public Health Measures for Annual Town Meeting

GROVELAND — Finance and Personnel Director Denise Dembkoski reports that the Town of Groveland will implement several public health measures at next week’s Annual Town Meeting amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

WHEN:

Monday, June 22 at 7 p.m.

WHERE:

Dr. Elmer S. Bagnall Elementary School at 253 School St.

WHAT:

Residents are reminded that the Annual Town Meeting will be held on Monday. The Selectmen and Moderator have voted to lower the quorum for this Town Meeting only to 50 registered voters.

Those planning to attend are asked to allow extra time for the check-in process, which is anticipated to take longer than usual due to procedures put in place to reduce the risk of COVID-19 exposure to voters, town employees and volunteers.

Four EMTs will conduct no-contact temperature checks on everyone attending the meetings, and all attendees are asked to wear a mask for the entire meeting. Those who do not have masks of their own will be provided one.

Gov. Charlie Baker issued an executive order, effective Wednesday, May 6 requiring people in Massachusetts to wear a face covering in instances where social distancing is not possible in all indoor and outdoor public spaces. Those who decline to wear a face mask will be asked to sit in a “no mask” zone at Monday’s Town Meeting, while maintaining social distance from others of at least six feet.

Those planning to attend the meeting are asked to be mindful of their health and watch out for symptoms associated with COVID-19 including cough, fever and shortness of breath. If you are displaying any of those symptoms or have had a potential exposure to someone with confirmed or suspected COVID-19, you should not attend Town Meeting.

Chairs will be spaced out in accordance with social distancing guidance. Voters from the same household will be permitted to sit closer together.

Residents at the meeting will be asked to vote on 39 articles, which include items such as whether to authorize the selectmen to acquire easements for the community trail, the creation of a new revolving fund for Groveland Day, and appropriation for a variety of projects including the establishment of a new dog park, a historic document management system at the library, a Boat House at the Pines, an all-inclusive playground at the Bagnall Elementary School, and appropriation for recommended Capital Projects, in addition to the town’s operating budget.
