Pentucket School Committee Votes to Continue Remote Learning through April Vacation

Last Day of Classes Now June 18

WEST NEWBURY — Superintendent Justin Bartholomew reports that the Pentucket Regional School District School Committee has voted to continue remote learning through the planned April break.

The School Committee voted unanimously in favor of the change to the district’s calendar for the 2019-2020 school year at its remotely held meeting Tuesday.

School Committee members made the decision after significant discussion and consideration, in an effort to keep students engaged in the district’s second phase of remote learning and to prevent a disruption to student’s new remote learning schedules.

As a result of the vote, students will continue daily remote learning activities next week from Tuesday, April 21, through Friday, April 24. No remote learning will be held on Monday, April 20, in observance of Patriot’s Day.

The decision to continue remote learning through the break will allow the school to release students early this school year, on June 18.

“We’d like to thank our Pentucket families for their flexibility and understanding throughout this situation,” Superintendent Bartholomew said. “This decision will allow our district to end the school year a little earlier than expected, which we feel is necessary given the COVID-19 pandemic and the impact it has had on all of our lives and daily routines. Stay safe and be well.”

Pentucket Regional School District closed its schools in an effort to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in mid-March, and since then schools across the state have been ordered to remain closed through May 4, at least.

Pentucket Regional School District will continue to provide regular updates to students, parents, guardians, faculty and staff as more information becomes available regarding the COVID-19 situation.
