Superintendent Colin Stokes reports that the Groveland Water Department, with assistance from East Coast Excavating Inc., has repaired a break in the old water main at Pentucket Regional Middle School that was discovered Thursday and forced the Middle and High Schools to temporarily shift to remote learning.
WEST NEWBURY — Superintendent Justin Bartholomew is pleased to share that Pentucket Regional School District’s nurses have come together to create a video sharing health and safety guidance to prevent the spread of COVID-19 this holiday season.

WEST NEWBURY — Superintendent Justin Bartholomew is pleased to announce that the Pentucket Regional High School will transition back to a hybrid learning model tomorrow after going fully remote at the end of last week due to two positive student COVID-19 cases and approximately 25 identified close contacts among students.
Beginning Tuesday, Oct. 13, the high school will go back to hybrid learning and all athletics activities will be able to resume. Other schools in the district will continue with their current normal operating plans.
Last week, the district was made aware of two students with positive COVID-19 cases. One student had last been in school on Friday, Oct. 2 and tested positive that night. The second positive student case had not been in school since Tuesday, Sept. 29 and tested positive last Monday, Oct. 5.
In an effort to allow the local health agents to get the most accurate data on those 25 students, the district made the decision to temporarily switch to a fully remote learning model on Thursday and Friday of last week and postpone all athletics activities.
All close contacts of those two students have been notified by local and/or state health officials of the need to self-quarantine. If you were not contacted by a local or state public health official, you are not considered a close contact.
The district is still urging students to practice social distancing and avoid gathering in large groups, even outdoors.
Out of an abundance of caution, the high school was thoroughly sanitized and disinfected last week. All schools will continue to be cleaned and disinfected daily.
“We want to thank everyone for their patience and understanding as we work through the many issues that are brought forth by the COVID-19 pandemic,” Superintendent Bartholomew said. “We are glad to be able to re-open the high school tomorrow for hybrid learning and continue with our athletics programs. We will continue to keep families updated with the latest news and information as we progress through the school year.”

Prior to the COVID-19 outbreak which has forced school facilities statewide to close for the remainder of the school year, Pentucket had planned a series of events to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Cafe Jazz.
During Cafe Jazz, the Pentucket Regional High School cafeteria is decorated to transform into a “jazz club” for a night of student performances. Next year’s in-person performances are tentatively scheduled to be held in May 2021, and this month, alumni have been invited to perform as special guests. Their performances will be shared online for their peers and the community.
The video performances will also offer viewers an opportunity to write in and interact with comments and questions.
West Newbury resident, Pentucket parent and professional video editor, Tim Kane of Indian Hill Productions, has volunteered to produce the Cafe Jazz video this month.

Pentucket Regional School District students have the opportunity this May to volunteer their own video performances through the first-ever Pentucket Music Conservatory recital, and a video of all the performances will be archived and viewable after May 27 on the conservatory’s YouTube channel as well.
Students in grades seven through 12 will perform in the recital, and faculty will also participate. Students have been given the opportunity to perform using any instrument they wish, and are not limited to the instruments they primarily practice through their academics or after school activities. Performances will include solos, solos with accompaniment or a digital collaboration with peers.
The district will be sharing the Pentucket Music Conservatory Encore Performance Series this month, through which the district will be posting encore “premieres'” online of district performances from spring 2018 and 2019.
